Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood living in New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. She joined the CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She was hired by NBC News Washington two years later as an general reporter. Beginning in 1981, she began covering the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. She was named the chief White House correspondent in 1992 as well as chief foreign correspondent of NBC News in 1994. Mitchell has been a panelist and host of the TV program Meet the Press. She was on the panel of the 1988 presidential debates which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded numerous honors in journalism, among them her Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. Mitchell was also awarded by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award by Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell began reporting on the White House in 1981-1988, and during the presidency of Ronald Reagan. She covered a wide range of interesting stories such as arms control the budget tax reform, and the Iran-contra scandal. She also was frequently together with the president Reagan to summits with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world heads.
